As with previous updates, most of the TL2009/TL2011 advice below still applies.
To install a La Te X package on a global level, you should use a PKGBUILD for the sake of simplifying maintenance.
ar Xiv is now running under Te XLive 2016, with a new, updated and enhanced tree of local addons and support for newer font sets, and everything else contained within the standard distribution.
The core components (for example Te X itself) has been tested by the Te Xlive team, but very nearly everything else and especially all the La Te X packages are just the very recent version.
So the version of Te Xlive in the Cent OS repository is not a very good or stable or tested version.
And when asking questions on https://tex.stackexchange.com/ they recommend to update your Te Xlive first, but you cannot using the version from repository.
